If you’re dreaming of a chic, modern wedding in the Midwest with artistic details, architecture that stuns, and photos that feel like stills from the most beautiful indie film, Robin & Eli’s September wedding in Plymouth, Michigan is about to live rent-free in your head (it still is in mine!!). Their celebration blended contemporary design, heartfelt moments, and a color palette bold enough to stop traffic—all captured through my documentary-meets-editorial approach and 35mm film wedding photography.
As a Midwest film wedding photographer who loves intimate, emotional storytelling, this day checked every single box.

Robin & Eli met the way all cozy, low-pressure love stories should: at a friend’s birthday party. One conversation turned into many, and eventually into a partnership built on ease, humor, and the kind of devotion you can feel in every frame. Their wedding carried that same energy—intentional, stylish, and deeply them.

When I say their palette was a moment, I mean…Vogue needs to see this.
Think:
It felt elevated, unexpected, and straight-up editorial. Their floral designer leaned fully into sculptural textures: calla lilies, blown-out tulips, modern orchids—all arranged in airy, asymmetrical shapes that looked like fine art installations scattered throughout the venue.

This Plymouth wedding venue was an absolute dream for documentary and editorial wedding photography. The ceremony took place beneath a sweeping glass atrium ceiling, which flooded the space with soft, natural light. Golden rays caught the crystal chandeliers, giving everything a warm, glowing luminosity—like nature and old-world glamour had a baby.
If you’re hunting for a wedding venue in Michigan, with incredible light and architectural detail, Saint John’s Resort needs to be on your shortlist.
Robin stepped into the day wearing a minimalist bridal silhouette that made everyone gasp—in the best possible way. Her gown featured:
She looked timeless yet unmistakably contemporary—exactly the blend that editorial weddings nail so well.

Throughout the day, I photographed Robin & Eli with my signature blend of documentary candid moments and editorial, cinematic compositions. I also brought along a roll of film to capture the textures, tones, and honest emotion of the day in a way only analog can.
Some of my favorite moments included:
The whole day held this grounded, emotional magic that made photographing it feel effortless.
