A Bold Summer Wedding at 9th Street Abbey in St. Louis, Missouri | Erin & Bryan

September 4, 2025

The Story of Erin & Bryan

Some couples have a meet-cute. Erin and Bryan? They have a life-saving first date. No, really — on their very first night out together, Erin started choking at dinner. Bryan didn’t hesitate. He jumped up, performed the Heimlich maneuver, and saved her life. From that moment, Erin knew this was someone special — and the rest, as they say, is history.

Fast forward to a warm June day in St. Louis, Missouri, right in the heart of historic Soulard, and their story continued with a wedding at 9th Street Abbey, one of the city’s most unique and romantic venues. The ivy covered old church and courtyard made for a PERFECT setting for a breezy cocktail hour under string lights in warm summer air.

The Vision: Romance Meets Bold Color

Erin and Bryan wanted a wedding that felt timelessly romantic but still bursting with personality. Their floral palette leaned into summer’s vibrancy with a modern edge, with bright pops of red and the wedding flower that’s dominating Pinterest in 2025, anthurium, mixed into bouquets. These statement flowers added just the right amount of edge to the romantic vibe.

The bridesmaids carried that energy with mismatched black dresses — each one stylish and unique, but together creating a chic backdrop for the bold florals. The contrast of rich black gowns against colorful bouquets made for a palette to die for! I love how stylish and unique all my brides’ tastes are; it makes things so much fun on my end!

Photographing Their Day

I photographed their day on both digital and 35mm film, giving their gallery a timeless, documentary feel that fits the story they’ve been writing together since that unforgettable first date. Some of my favorite images came from film: the grain, the tones, and the way it captured emotion in such an honest, nostalgic way.

Erin and Bryan’s June wedding was the perfect blend of romance, color, and joy. And with their story, it’s clear they were meant for a forever kind of love.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding at 9th Street Abbey (or anywhere else!) and want your day captured with both a storytelling and documentary eye, I’d love to be there for you. Inquire here!
