When Taylor and Cole started planning their engagement photos with me, they had one request: a location that felt beautiful, timeless, and cinematic. We settled on the St. Louis Public Library Central Branch—and it was the perfect choice for an urban library engagement session. Built in 1912, the library boasts stunning architecture, grand staircases, domed and intricately designed ceilings, and beautiful stained glass windows. The arched outdoor entrance hall is equally breathtaking. If you’re a couple dreaming of engagement photos that feel both classic and romantic with an architectural vibe, the library is one of my favorite cool places to take pictures in St. Louis!
St. Louis has no shortage of iconic locations, but this historic library stood out not only for its beauty but also because it allows professional photoshoots inside for free, you just have to fill out their form to register your date and time on their website. The combination of grand interiors, incredible exteriors, and cozy corners created the perfect backdrop for a session that felt intimate and cinematic. We also explored the steps outside the library and the nearby urban streets, capturing a beautiful mix of architecture and city vibes.
If you’re looking for a location with an upscale, timeless feel and love the atmosphere of a city, the St. Louis Public Library Central Branch is a dream come true. Add to that the moody romance of a rainy day, and everything fell into place beautifully for this session.
Every couple has a story, and Taylor and Cole’s is such a sweet one. They first met on a float trip and bonded over their shared faith—a connection that has only grown stronger over time. Their love for each other is so evident in the way they interact, laugh together, and support one another. It was such an honor to capture these moments for them. Check out my instagram post about their session!
We began the session inside the library near its grand staircase, where the dramatic architecture created a beautiful frame for Taylor and Cole. From there, we explored the reading rooms, domed ceilings, and open halls, taking full advantage of the soft, natural light and the classic design of the space.
After capturing some dreamy shots indoors, we stepped outside to embrace the rain. The library’s grand outdoor entrance hall and nearby urban streets gave us even more variety in the session. I loved how the rainy day added a cozy, cinematic vibe—Taylor and Cole snuggled under a clear umbrella, enjoying the moment despite the weather. Rainy days have a way of creating extra magic—the reflections on the city streets, the soft colors, and the cozy moments under the umbrella all made for unforgettable shots.
Taylor and Cole’s outfit choices were perfect for this session—elegant, timeless, and comfortable. Taylor wore a soft grey dress, which looked stunning against the rich architecture of the library and the rainy city streets. Cole’s cozy neutral sweater and slacks gave the session a polished, refined feel, while still allowing for movement and comfort.
If you’re planning your own engagement session in a location like a historic library or museum where the architecture is one of the stars of the show, I recommend outfits that feel classic and timeless. Soft neutrals, flowing fabrics, and tailored pieces work beautifully with grand architecture and moody fall weather. And don’t be afraid to bring accessories like a clear umbrella or cozy layers—these small details can make your photos feel even more personal and unique.
If you’re dreaming of engagement photos that feel timeless, romantic, and uniquely you, the St. Louis Public Library Central Branch is a truly unforgettable location. Taylor and Cole’s session shows how even a rainy day can become a beautiful opportunity to capture real, heartfelt moments. If my documentary-style, candid approach speaks to you, I’d love to help you capture the magic of your love story!
